A rainbow or colored gemstones are suspended from creamy seed pearls in this delightful harlequin necklace. In the jewelry world “harlequin” refers to pieces of jewelry with multiple, seemingly random, colored stones and this necklace delivers with turquoise, amber, sapphires, amethyst, opal, citrine, moonstone, emerald, pearl, and tourmaline. The large greenish stone at the center of the necklace tests as paste (high quality glass); otherwise all the stones are varieties of colored gemstones.

The necklace dates from circa 1900, right on the cusp of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
