  • Materials:

Agate and jasper stones and hair. The gold acid tests as between 10 and 12 karat. The central compartment containing the hair appears to be brass, but wasn't tested so as not to mar the piece.

  • Size:

    1-1/4" square

  • Marks:

    None

  • Age:

    Early 19th century

  • Condition:

There is a small chip in one of the jasper stones. A black, resin-like substance fills most of this chip to stabilize it. Under close examination this chip and filler are visible, but it is barely noticeable during normal wear. As mentioned above, the hair compartment may be an early replacement. There is also a small amount of debris in the hair compartment.
