Product Info

This French iris brooch epitomizes the elegance of early 20th century jewelry. There are traces of the Art Nouveau style in the swooping curves of the leaves, but overall the depiction of the flower is more traditional. The flower is very three dimensional, with forward-curving petals and overlapping leaves and stem.

It is constructed of platinum-topped 18 karat gold and has its original trombone clasp. Originally the pin mechanism was removable and there were probably other mechanisms that attached like a hair pin or bale, but at some point in its long history the soldered to the flower and is no longer removable. There is also a watch hook at t he bottom of the stem.

    18 karat gold, platinum and approximately 2 total carat weight of diamonds. The diamonds are mostly old European cuts, with rose cuts for the smaller diamonds.

    There is a partial strike of a French maker's mark on the pin stem, along with a partial strike of the French eagle's head mark for 18 karat gold.

  • Condition:

    Very good antique condition. The clasp is a little tight, needed a good pull and push to open and close. As mentioned above, the pin is no longer removable. And there is a mysterious small hole drilled into the platinum along one edge.
