If you were an intrepid traveler or miner in Alaska in the late-19th or early 20th century, this brooch would have been a wonderful souvenir to bring back to a loved-one. High karat gold nuggets are applied over a backing of 14 karat gold to form a crescent moon, with the nuggets giving it a marvelous texture. The brooch has its original "C" clasp, but could easily be converted to a pendant by a jeweler.
