Product Info
This extraordinary set of seed pearl jewelry is also in extraordinary condition, rare for its type. As collectors of antique jewelry know, this genre of jewelry - seed pearls attached to a backing of mother-of-pearl - is delicate. So finding a set in wonderful condition like this is a rarity.
What makes it extra rare are the cobalt blue enamel bows, rings, and domed trellises that beautifully compliment the creamy white pearls. What makes it even better is that the necklace is a wearable 16" long.
The necklace and earrings are in their original box, by the London jewelers (jewellers, in the British spelling) Watherston & Son.
In 1864 James Henderson Watherson ended his more than 20 year partnership with John Brogden, one of the most prominent British jewelers of the 19th century, and established Watherston & Son with his son Edward. They were known for their archaeological revival jewelry, enamel jewelry, and pearl jewelry, two of which can be seen in this set. From 1864 to 1902 they were located at 12 Pall Mall East in London, the address noted on this set’s box; after 1902 they were located at 6 Vigo Street in London where they remained until closing the business in 1910/11.
