Product Info

This is one of the most remarkable Art Deco paste brooches that I've ever seen. At its center is a brilliant enamel parrot sitting on a branch and surrounded by stylized leaves and a jagged Art Deco border. I especially love the way the wings project slightly above the top edge of the brooch, as if the parrot is getting ready to fly away.

The brooch is French, hallmarked on the back, and made of silver.

    Silver, enamel, paste

  • Size:

    2-7/16" long x 15/16" high

  • Marks:

    "Made in France"; the French boar's head hallmark indicating that it's made from at least 800 silver; and a lozenge-shaped maker's mark characteristic of French jewelry with initials and a symbol inside that I can't make out

  • Age:

    1920's

  • Condition:

    Very good vintage (almost antique) condition. There is a small chip to the enamel on the smallest feather. There is some yellowing to the paste stones visible under magnification, although overall it reads as sparkly. The rim of the brooch next to the hinge of the clasp has a modern laser welded repair where the rim had a small break in it which is not visible when worn. The "C" clasp has an old repair where it was soft soldered, which is not visible when worn
