Product Info
This bracelet is from Grete Prytz Kittelsen's first collection of jewelry for J. Tostrup and is called "Wave" (Bolge). Designed in 1956, the eight links are 3-dimensional, rising and falling like waves coming into the shore. The transparent white enamel is applied to a ribbed silver surface with a gold finish. This bracelet, in blue enamel, appears on page 178 of Grete Prytz Kittelsen: The Art of Enamel Design. This design rarely comes to market and is a great piece to add to a collection of Scandinavian jewelry.
Grete Prytz Kittelsen (1917-2010) was a Norwegian artist and designer known for the jewelry and enameled dishes she designed for her family’s firm J. Tostrup. She studied at the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo and at the Institute of Design in Chicago (also known as the “New Bauhaus") where she met Mies van der Rohe, Ray and Charles Eames, and other important artists and architects of the era. She was a recipient of the Lunning Prize in 1952. In 2008 an exhibition of her work was shown at the National Museum of Art, Architecture, and Design in Oslo and an associated book was published, Grete Prytz Kittelsen: The Art of Enamel Design was published.
