Halley's comet was visible in 1759, 1835, 1910,and 1986 and this brooch dates from its 1910 appearance.

Made of 14 karat gold (with a 10k pin), this small brooch packs a lot of detail into a compact package. It is set with a cushion-cut paste stone held by six tall prongs with crescent-shaped flourishes between them. The tail of the comet is engraved in a way to add a sense of motion to the comet. Although dating from the Edwardian era, its style is more typical of late Victorian jewelry.
