Product Info
This belt with alternating X's and indented domes by Hector Aguilar is often referred to as the "O'Keeffe" belt because an example of it was owned by Georgia O'Keeffe and she was frequently photographed wearing it. I've attached a photo of her wearing the belt which I saw in a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit at the Norton Museum in early 2020. And here's a link to her belt which is in the collection of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. I also have a pair of matching bracelets for sale as a separate listing.
The belt is currently approximately 29" long, with the X's and domes on black suede backed in leather, probably original. It could be lengthened by approximately 3" (1-1/2" - 1-3/4" on each side of the buckle) by someone who is able to work with suede and adjust the stitching, although the place where the stitches are currently located will probably be somewhat visible.
Hector Aguilar (1905-1986) is one of the masters of mid-20th century Mexican jewelry. He began his jewelry career as manager for William Spratling’ workshop from 1937-1939. In 1939 he established his own workshop, the Taller Borda, in an 18th century building on the zocalo in Taxco, which remained open until 1962.
