Product Info
This belt with alternating X's and indented domes by Hector Aguilar is often referred to as the "O'Keeffe" belt because an example of it was owned by Georgia O'Keeffe and she was frequently photographed wearing it. I've attached a photo of her wearing the belt which I saw in a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit at the Norton Museum in early 2020. And here's a link to her belt which is in the collection of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
The belt is approximately 27-1/4" long, with the X's and domes on black suede backed in leather, probably original. Please note that this is the narrow version of the belt, at 1-1/2" wide, perfect if you're short-waisted and find wide belts challenging to wear.
Hector Aguilar (1905-1986) is one of the masters of mid-20th century Mexican jewelry. He began his jewelry career as manager for William Spratling’ workshop from 1937-1939. In 1939 he established his own workshop, the Taller Borda, in an 18th century building on the zocalo in Taxco, which remained open until 1962.
