Product Info
The art of anticlastic raising uses hammers and stakes to transform a single sheet of metal into complex curved forms. Even though the tools used are simple, it requires a great deal of skill to achieve the desired result. Some of the masters of the art of anticlastic raising include American jewelry designer Michael Good and Finnish-born jewelry designer Heikki Seppa and Finnish designer Juha Koskela.
This brooch is unsigned by its maker, but clearly made by a master of this technique, with the silver formed into narrow tubes at the ends and expanding into luscious open curves at the center. At 4-3/4" long, it is bold in scale yet fairly light, with the complex curves giving it strength and springiness.
