J. Tostrup (1832-1984) was a major Norwegian firm known for its jewelry and decorative objects. It was founded in 1832 by Jacob Tostrup and has been recognized for design excellence for nearly two centuries.
Gudmund Elvestad (1932-2006) was a goldsmith and industrial design who worked as a designer for Tostrup in the first half of the 1960’s. His jewelry tends towards the abstract and angular, and is often anthropomorphic or biomorphic. He left Tostrup in 1966 to become an instructor at SHKS {Statens Håndverks-og Kunstindistriskole (National School of Art and Design)]. His work is in the collection of the National Museum of Norway.
