Atelier Janiye was a studio formed by Miye Matsukata (1922-1981), Naomi Katz Harris, and Janice Whipple Williams who were classmates at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts school in the mid-1940’s where they studied classical holloware and jewelry making. After completing their training they formed Atelier Janiye (a conjunction of parts of their names).

Other studio jewelers of note who were part of Atelier Janiye include Alexandra Solowij Watkins, Nancy Michel, and Yoshiko Yamamato. The studio continued producing jewelry until 2014, when Michel and Watkins retired.

This marvelous sterling necklace is made of forged links wrapped with silver wire which gives it texture and dimension. It is a perfect mid-weight piece, substantial enough to wear on its own yet suitable for layering.
