Product Info
This ring is a modern masterpiece created by two 20th century masters, Bjorn Weckstrom of Lapponia and Bernd Munsteiner.
Bernd Munsteiner (1943 -) is a revolutionary in the world of gem cutting and invented what is known as the “fantasy cut”, non-traditional cuts made on gemstones. He is responsible for the stunning cut of the banded agate (sardonyx) featured in this ring. I've included a photo of the ring next to a photo of a similar agate sculpture created by Munsteiner and shown in the monograph Bernd Munsteiner, Reflections in Stone.
The 18 karat yellow gold ring was designed by Bjorn Weckstom of Lapponia to feature the agate and has a diamond accent set in white gold. Unlike most Lapponia jewelry, this ring was produced in a limited edition of only 100 pieces.
Bjorn Weckstrom is one of the most important jewelry designers of the 20th century. He is a sculptor who looks upon jewelry as “miniature sculpture with the human body in the background”, “drawing his inspiration from the shape and matte surface of gold nuggets from Finnish Lapland” as stated on the Lapponia website.
