This acrylic and silver  “Man in Cosmos” ring is from Bjorn Weckstrom’s Space Silver series, in the rare color of red. Weckstrom was inspired by the moon landing in 1969 and his love of space resulted in his having an enduring place in popular culture: his “Planetoid Valleys” necklace was worn by Princess Leia in the first Star Wars movie.

Founded in 1960 in Finland, Lapponia is known for their sculptural modernist jewelry and Bjorn Weckstrom is considered one of the most important jewelry designers of the 20th century.  He is a sculptor who looks upon jewelry as “miniature sculpture with the human body in the background” “drawing his inspiration from the shape and matte surface of gold nuggets from Finnish Lapland” as stated on the Lapponia website.
