Mary McFadden (1938-) is a renowned fashion designer who began her clothing company in the 1970’s after working in public relations for Dior in the 1960’s and as an editor at Vogue. She was the recipient of the Coty Award in 1976 and 1978 and received the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art describes her approach to fashion design as “anthropological” and this can also be seen in her jewelry which is often influenced by ancient jewelry and objects and is bold and sculptural. Her jewelry was made of brass with a 22 karat gold finish and is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
