Product Info
These fantastic sterling silver earrings look like seed pods that have opened to reveal a web of wires inside. Their outer surface has a rough, brutalist, texture yet their overall form is elegant. They are unsigned but were acquired with a group of pieces by Wesley Emmons and their construction is similar to those pieces, making the attribution likely.
Wesley Emmons (1928-2011) was a renowned Philadelphia studio jeweler. Emmons received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in jewelry from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, where he also taught jewelry-making for many years. In 1964 he and his wife opened a jewelry store in Center City Philadelphia where they sold his designs along with those of his former students and apprentices. His work was included in an exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1974, and a retrospective of his work was shown at the University of the Arts in 2004.
