Product Info
Look closely at this brooch: while at first it appears to be an abstract design it actually is of a stylized bird and two horses. Designed by the great Tone Vigeland, this brooch is one of the pieces that she designed for the Norway PLUS workshop. Even better, it comes with its original suede pouch.
Tone Vigeland (1938-2024) is one of the most important Norwegian studio jewelers of the 20th century. From 1958-61 she worked for PLUS, the artisan cooperative founded by Per Tannum in 1958 and led by Erling Christoffersen and Anna Greta Eker, and she continued to create designs for them into the 1970’s. She is known for her sculptural jewelry some of which, like this brooch, are easily wearable and others of which are more challenging. Vigeland’s work is in the collections of many museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and the Cooper Hewitt and Museum of Modern Art in New York.
