Product Info
Tone Vigeland (1938-2024) is one of the most important Norwegian studio jewelers of the 20th century. From 1958-61 she worked for PLUS, the artisan cooperative founded by Per Tannum in 1958 and led by Erling Christoffersen and Anna Greta Eker.
Vigeland is known for her sculptural jewelry some of which, like this piece, are easily wearable and others of which are more challenging. Vigeland’s work is in the collections of many museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and the Cooper Hewitt and Museum of Modern Art in New York.
According to the monograph Tone Vigeland: Jewelry, Objects, Sculpture, this brooch, known as “Sol” (sun) was designed by Vigeland in 1960 and produced from 1960-1985.
