Product Info
This pair of X bracelets by Hector Aguilar is a rare find. The design is often referred to as the "O'Keeffe" design because the matching belt was owned by Georgia O'Keeffe and she was frequently photographed wearing it. I've attached a photo of her belt (on her Emelio Pucci "Chute" dress) which I took at a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit at the Norton Museum in early 2020. And here's a link to her belt which is in the collection of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. I also have the belt available for sale as a separate listing.
The bracelets are currently approximately 6-1/4" long, with the X's on black suede, probably original. They could be shortened by approximately 1" by someone who is able to work with suede and adjust the stitching; there is extra suede on the back so they could be lengthened a lot, although the place where the stitches are currently located will probably be somewhat visible.
Hector Aguilar (1905-1986) is one of the masters of mid-20th century Mexican jewelry. He began his jewelry career as manager for William Spratling’ workshop from 1937-1939. In 1939 he established his own workshop, the Taller Borda, in an 18th century building on the zocalo in Taxco, which remained open until 1962.
