Product Info
Vivianna Torun Bulow-Hube (1927-2004), often referred to simply as Torun, was one of the most innovative mid-century modernist designers. Her designs are streamlined and elegant, which can clearly be seen in this marvelous necklace that she designed for Georg Jensen. Here, a teardrop-shaped pendant of finely rutilated quartz is suspended from an oval neck ring. The neck ring is shaped to sit wide around your neck and close to the base of the throat; and once you own it, it can be adjusted to fit the contours of your neck and shoulders.
According to Georg Jensen Jewelry Torun’s life was “populated with figures from the worlds of fine art, film, and jazz.” While living in France is 1948 she met Picasso and “he was so taken with her work that in 1958 Torun had a solo exhibition at the Picasso Museum in Antibes”. In 1967 Torun began a relationship with the Jensen silversmithy which continued until her death, and from that point on they produced many of her designs, including pieces designed earlier in her career. During the course of her long career she received many awards including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1960, and the Lunning prize in 1961.
