J. Tostrup is a venerable Norwegian firm known for its jewelry and decorative objects. It was founded in 1832 by Jacob Tostrup and has been recognized for design excellence for nearly two centuries.

This set of silver jewelry is a rare survivor of their work from the last quarter of the 19th century.  It consists of a festoon necklace embellished with cannetille rosettes and ivy leaves, a pair of hinged bangles, and a garland of ivy leaves to wear in the hair. It also came with its original paper insert listing Tostrup awards and cleaning instructions; it was torn where it had been folded, but I've taped it back together using acid free tape

Miraculously for jewelry of its age, the pieces in this set are sized so that they are wearable by a modern woman, with the necklace 16" long and the bracelets having inside clear circumferences of approximately 6-1/4".  The set is in excellent condition although it should be noted that the ivy leaves are of very light gauge silver, so it should be worn with care.

Most surviving sets of older Tostrup jewelry are in the collections of museums. I have included a photo of a set in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that has similar cannetille work, and a photo of a set that was given to Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in 1881, probably around the time that this set was made.
