Product Info
Atelier Zobel was founded by master jeweler Michael Zobel in 1970 and has been owned by his protege, Peter Schmid, since 2005. They are known for designs in which high-karat gold is fused with silver and for their use of gemstones, both as accents to the exquisite metalwork, and as a feature. Atelier Zobel's pieces are dramatic and sculptural, but always wearable.
This impressive ring is by Michael Zobel, and features an unusually-cut piece of rock crystal set in gold. Zobel plays with areas of dark and light, creating a triangular "shadow" of the stone in spattered gold and silver, its edges highlighted with diamonds. This triangle is mirrored beneath the stone in gold, with the negative space above it in darkened silver. Here too, even beneath the rock crystal, the edges of the triangle are highlighted with diamonds.
The rock crystal has a matte finish, with just the ridge of its triangle polished. The underside of the ring and the shank are in patinated silver.
