This large brooch by modernist studio jeweler Esther Lewittes looks like it's about to take flight. Elegant curves of silver spread wide and are anchored at the center by a luminous baroque pearl.

Esther Lewittes (?-1990) studied design at the Art Students League in New York and jewelry-making with a staff jeweler at Cartier. She initially started selling her jewelry at the Georg Jensen shop in New York in the 1950's. In the 1960's she moved to Los Angeles and opened her own gallery where she sold her own jewelry, along with that of other mid-century studio jewelers.
