Fahrner rarely makes figural jewelry so this Art Deco pendant is a rarity. In it a parrot sits on a branch, surrounded by silver swirls studded with marcasites, and two lapis cabochons provide accents. One of the details that makes this piece special is the way the parrot's tail feathers break through the border of the pendant at the bottom (but don't worry, the carved feathers are backed in silver for reinforcement).

Theodor Fahrner was a German jewelry manufacturer particularly known for Jugendstil (the German version of Art Nouveau) and Art Deco jewelry.  They were based in Pforzheim, the jewelry-making capital of Germany. The company was founded in 1855 by Theodor Fahrner Sr., continued under his son Theodor Fahrner Jr., and acquired by one of the firm’s designers Gustav Braendle after Fahrner junior’s death in 1919.  The firm remained in business until 1979. Fahrner was known as an “artist-manufacturer”, employing many well-known designers including Max Gradl, Hermann Haussler, Patriz Huber, Georg Kleemann, and Joseph Maria Olbrich. Fahrner also produced jewelry for other companies, most notably Murrle, Bennett & Co. of London.
