Product Info
Oysten Balle (1928-1998) was a Norwegian maker of enameled jewelry from the 1950’s until the early 1980’s and based in Stavinger, Norway. The firm is known for it’s striking designs in colored enamels although, for a firm producing designs of such high quality, not much is known.
This brooch is a great example of their design. With its freeform black enamel on a background of heavenly blue, the forms alternately appear to be figures running chasing balls, branches silhouetted against the sky, or sea creatures in the water. The design achieves further complexity with an engraved pattern of squiggles beneath the transparent blue enamel.
