These Biba Schutz earrings have a wonderful and unusual ombre patina that grades from almost-black to almost-silver. The earrings are made of sheet silver formed into a tube with a crosspiece on the interior from which the handmade earwire is suspended. When I acquired the earrings they came in a flocked pouch from the Patina Gallery, a jewelry gallery in Santa Fe that carries the work of renowned contemporary artists including Schutz, and they accompany the earrings.

Biba Schutz is an award-winning jewelry artist whose work is in the collection of many museums and galleries including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Newark Museum; and the Smithsonian. She received her BA in graphic design in 1968 from American University in Washington, DC, but is a self-taught metalsmith.
