Product Info
Tone Vigeland (1938-2024) is one of the most important Norwegian studio jewelers of the 20th century. From 1958-61 she worked for PLUS, the artisan cooperative founded by Per Tannum in 1958 and led by Erling Christoffersen and Anna Greta Eker, and she continued to create designs for them into the 1970’s.
She is known for her sculptural jewelry some of which, like this brooch, are easily wearable and others of which are more challenging. Vigeland’s work is in the collections of many museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and the Cooper Hewitt and Museum of Modern Art in New York.
This bangle bracelet is known as "Knot" ("Knute" in Norwegian) and was designed by her for the Norway Plus workshops. It shows her mastery of design and ability to transform the simplest of materials, silver wire, into a stylish and interesting piece of jewelry. Though the bracelet does not have the Vigeland "TV" mark, this design appears in a Norway Plus catalogue confirming that the design is by her (I've included a screenshot from the catalogue below).
