A sterling silver snake wraps its tail in a figure eight infinity sign, the final wrap holding its center, in this marvelous antique brooch. The snake has a triangular mark on its head and the mouth and eyes are engraved, primarily visible when viewed from the side.

The pin back is a later replacement, when the original "C" clasp was replaced with a modern safety clasp. For the creatively-inclined, the pin back could be removed and the curvature of the snake would allow it to be attached to a ribbon choker and worn at the neck, or the pin back could be removed and it could be worn vertically as a chain extender.

In the Victorian era snakes were symbols of eternal love, popularized when Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria an engagement ring in the form of a snake that wrapped her finger.
