Gemstones spelling out the word "Regard" sit at the center of interlocking pearl flowers in this sublimely romantic ring which dates to the late-Georgian or early Victorian era, circa 1830's or '40's. The ring came in an older box by James Robinson, one of the finest sellers of antique jewelry in New York, and was likely retailed by them at some point in the ring's long history.

Acrostic jewelry is jewelry in which a word is spelled by the first letter of each gemstone. In this case "Regard" is spelled out by R(uby), E(emerald), G(arnet), A(methyst), R(uby), and D(iamond).

  • Condition:

    Very good for a ring of its age. Having said that, there are chips to the gemstones and remnants of glue around many of the pearls indicating that some of them have been re-glued or replaced. In addition, there is a nicely-done soft solder repair to one of the shoulders of the ring with a splice plate on the inside of the shank at the site of the repair; a small amount of the soft solder is visible on the front of the ring where the splice took place and I've taken a close-up photo of this.
