Continuous chevrons wrap the finger in this marvelous ring by Antonio Pineda. Pineda (1919-2009) was one of the modernist master of Mexican silver jewelry. He began his career working for William Spratling and opened his own taller (studio) in 1939. A comprehensive exhibit of his work was shown at the Fowler Museum in Los Angeles and a monograph, Silver Seduction, The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda, was produced in conjunction with the exhibit. A similar ring to this one is shown in the book.

    970 Silver

  • Size:

    TINY! Approximately ring size 3-1/4 and unsizable because of the design

  • Marks:

    A crown with "Antonio" inside, the maker's mark for Antonio Pineda; the Mexican eagle assay mark with a "17" inside; and "970" indicating that it's made from 970 silver

  • Age:

    Mid-20th century. Antonio Pineda started using the crown maker's mark in 1953; the eagle assay mark stopped being used around 1980, so this ring was made sometime in that time frame

  • Condition:

    Very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use.
