Product Info
Pal Kepenyes (1926-2021) is known for his sculpture and sculptural jewelry, most of which is created out of bronze. Though this necklace has a free-form brutalist appearance this is deceptive: Kepenyes was a master of the controlling the drips and blobs of this style.
Here Kepenyes has created his own sculpted versions of milagrow, the traditional religious folk charms used in Mexico, and attached them with blobby-headed pins to an rimmed oval disk which he suspended from a hinged neck ring. The milagros include spades or hearts, silhouettes, a pair of eyes, a cat, and other animals. Though Kepenyes was Hungarian-born, he worked in Acapulco Mexico for several decades, so the use of traditional Mexican iconography makes sense. The necklace is created from bronze, with traces of silver plating on some of the milagros.
